“Do, do, do the funky gibbon…”

Great news if you just so happen to be ‘of the Tottenham persuasion’ – after missing the first-leg with a back injury, winger Gareth Bale is now odds-on to be fit in time to face AC Milan at White Hart Lane in the Champions League on March 9th.

Harry Redknapp told the PA:

“We’re hopeful, Gareth’s back training and we’ll look at him tomorrow (Friday). He’s starting to run and do some work with the fitness coaches, so he could be available. We need him, he’s a big player for us.”

With no Premier League fixture to mither about this weekend, Spurs have flown out to Dubai for a spot of warm-weather training – and Redknapp is hopeful that the pricey jaunt will pay off:

“It’s not a holiday, we’re going to train and work hard. We’ve got a few injured players and we’ve brought them all along, and hopefully a bit of sun on Gareth Bale’s back, and a few of the others, might do them good.”

Redknapp then reflected on his side’s maiden foray into the Champions League, before signing off with his now-customary ‘you’ve never had it so good’ tag-line:

“We went to Young Boys first game, were 3-0 down after 20 minutes and I thought ‘well, this is the end of our European campaign’, but we came out of that one then won the group and now we’ve got a chance to reach the last eight.

“It’s still not over, this tie. [Milan will] be coming to White Hart Lane and they’ve got forwards that can hurt you so it’s still going to be dangerous.

“It’s been unbelievable, from where we were when I started out to where we are now, we’ve been lucky, it’s been upwards all the way.”

We know Harry, we know. ‘Two from eight’, yadda yadda….zzzz.
