There’s nothing like a bit of transfer gossip to get football fans frothing at the mouth, and currently, Twitter is getting very excited by the news that, according to German newspaper Bild, FC Koln attacker Lukas Podolski is set to join Arsenal in the summer.

The 26-year-old German international, who can play either wide or through the middle, has apparently agreed to join the Gunners in the summer after enjoying a superb season to date with Koln. Podolski has already hit 15 goals in 19 Bundesliga appearances this season. However, he did endure an unsuccessful spell with Bayern Munich a couple of years ago, so it remains to be seen whether or not he has what it takes to blossom at a major club. Also, there are no reports of an agreement between the two clubs, so there may well be much work to be done by the Gunners.

Still, Arsenal are in dire need of a player who can share the attacking and goalscoring burden with Robin van Persie, and with Poldi comfortable on the left of a front three, he could fit into Arsene Wenger’s system quite easily.

So, is the German star the kind of player Arsenal need? Or (if he signs!), will he flop like he did in Munich?

    why would anyone want to join such a shit club…

    @jim Your mum.

    Six losses in their last seven, 4 points above the relegation zone, conceded the second most goals in the league – sure sounds like a superb season to date. At least he’ll be an adequate replacement for RVP, having scored half of FC’s goals this year.

  4. Adam says:

    He’ll flop just like at Bayern. Podolski is a big baby who feels entitled to everything and refuses to put in the work to get it. Things will go good for a while while he is new and starting at Arsenal but then somebody willing to put in more effort than him will take his starting spot and instead of putting in the work to get it back he will start pouting and talking about how he deserves the spot even though he is doing nothing to earn it. The only reason he does well at Koln is because for some strange reason the fans pretty much worship him there. Take him to a team where he isn’t the “big name” on the team and you’ll his true colors.

    he is only 26! feels like he has been around for ages! for me it could well be a decent signing as arsenal are in need of a proven striker rather than an arshavin/walcott who chip in now and again plus at 26 arsenal could get him just as he enters his prime. have always been impressed when i have seen him play (admittedly mostly for the german national team) as dont see much bundesliga

    Possibly another Arsharvin… but is a better striker than Gervihnio

  7. Bombo says:

    wow,wenger buying player that is over 12 years old,who knows maybe this is turning point for arsenal…

    Arsenal getting an established star? Doesnt sound like something Arsenal would do.

  9. Harry says:

    Very good player. I’m not even sure you could class him as being a flop at Bayern, just wasn’t given the playing time like alot of strikers that move to a big club. Amazing for club and country. A strong and equally quick player who is hitting his peak, how can this not be a good signing.

    As an Arsenal supporter, I will welcome him with open arms.

    Untill I see him on the Arsenal website and a confirmation of his signing, I won’t hold my breath
