Once touted as the man to bring an added creative spark to the Reds’ midfield, Alberto Aquilani looks set to finally break all connections with the Anfield club and make his move to Milan a permanent one.

The £17million signing of the glamorous Roma playmaker in 2009 by Rafa Benitez was expected to infuse the Red’s midfield with a classy and creative spark. However, despite sparkling in a number of games, the Italian never fully established himself in the first 11, with his fitness seemingly an issue.

The arrival of Roy Hodgson to replace Benitez in the summer of 2010 saw Aquilani eventually make a loan move to Juventus and the following year (with Kenny Dalglish now in charge), the Azzurri star made another loan move to Italy, this time to Milan where he has appeared regularly with the Serie A league leaders.

Now, according to his agent Franco Zavaglia, Aquilani is set to make the move to the Rossoneri a permanent one. Zavaglia said:

“As it was agreed, a permanent deal will automatically be struck once he makes 25 appearances.  I do not think that Milan will pass up on Aquilani. There is no problem about this, a permanent deal is something we all expect.”

A cut-price fee of around £5million is expected to be paid by Milan. However, one wonders if the midfielder really got enough of a chance to make his mark at Anfield.

As a Liverpool fan I would like to say im gutted. He was never given a proper chance. Fair enough he had injury problems, but what do Liverpool need other than some decent wingers? A creative midfielder and they are selling one at a very cut price rate.

@milkchew – I think he is a good player as well, but he didnt seem very keen on staying with us. His agent was shouting himself hoarse about Aquilani going to Italy and it being absolutely certain even during the pre-season, when Aquilani was being given a chance in the team by Kenny. I guess if he doesnt want to play for us then we cant really keep him, specially given the fact that he is injured so often. Pity though. Very tricky player.

doglish and woy is idiot manager! im sad to see him leave liverpool. we had to blame woy and doglish on his departure! sack doglish now! and throw adam, henderson, downing and spearing away!

As a Milan fan, and an Aquilani supporter, I’m glad to see people praising him. I think he is a good player, and probably adds something that Liverpool is lacking. Henderson for $20+ million is a worse buy. Adam is good but hasn’t been the same with L’Pool. Thankfully for Milan this is going through!

I would love to have him stay in Liverpool and given a proper chance. Selling him for just £5m is madness.

Why’s Jared Leto in a Liverpool shirt?

    Quick, make a shit-look-a-like…

he’s and “okay” player, he’s not great or even worthy of lacing stevie’s or lucas’ boots. i’m not concerned that an injury prone lengthy, soft player will be sold. if you have the trouble he has staying fit in italy, the rigors of the premier league will eat you alive.
