At last, with white Papal smoke billowing out of his arse, Lille’s much coveted Belgian winger, Eden Hazard, has finally told the world who he’ll be signing for – and it’s none other than Euro-conquerors Chelsea.

The 21-year-old wunderkind has been the centre of a tug of love with both Manchester clubs, Chelsea and god knows who else all making a play for Ligue 1’s star performer. And while either the blue or red half of Manchester was assumed to be his destination of choice, Hazard has decided to go for the Blues. On Monday evening, he Tweeted:

Now, unless he’s got confused and thinks that someone else won the European Cup this year, it’s Chelsea all the way for the attacker. A figure of £32million is being quoted for the star, who will join the Blues along with recent signing, Marko Marin, another silky wideman. And with Brazilian attacker Hulk also reported to be on his way, Roman Abramovich’s rebuilding job at Chelsea is starting to look rather tasty. If only he could sort out the manager’s job as easily.

hulk is going to be bad. not shevvy or up-until-recently Torres bad. just damien duff/swp bad. they will just look back and say:’why?’

  2. Jamie says:

Don’t forget they already bought De Bruyne

  3. Wilma says:

De Bruyne’s more of a business agreement between the linked clubs, though

  4. John says:

    And Marko Marin

  5. Anonymous says:

watch him go to aston villa. they won the champions league…

  6. Symexx says:

As a United fan um gutted he has chose Stamford Bridge over us was hoping he would be wearing the #7 jersey for us next season. But with Mata,Hazard,Sturridge,Marin and Hulk rumored to be on his way would be interesting to see how Chelsea line up especially their midfield…

  7. Nuno says:

They spent somewhere around 40 million euros on Hazard, so not quite sure they’ll spend another 50 on Hulk (Porto doesn’t sell cheap and he’s fundamental to them). And I don’t really think they need him now.
But I think it’s kinda funny to know they’re hiring players before the coach, just shows how much the manager’s job is rated around there and how much power the manager may have…

  8. Anonymous says:

He said he wants to play the number ten roll so he made the easy choice because he either had to take Mata’s spot or Rooney’s and he went with the one he could actually do

  9. Jarren says:

Hulk? Meh, he’ll spend a year in the Premiership and score 3 flukey goals.

    Hazard? WHO?

  10. Toz says:

Don’t see the excitement about “Hulk” or “Neymar” they play in the best teams in seriously sub-mediocre leagues.

Hazard seems like the player who won’t do anything either. Will be a complete flop.

  11. Jarren says:

Exactly, Toz. These guys are used to running rings around bog standard defenders week in, week out.

They may as well go to the SPL, to keep their egos intact.

  12. Red_Devil says:

Not going to happen but what if he’s doing another one of those “I’m going to Manchester” teasers seeing as both Chelsea and Man Utd have both won the Champion’s League, and it originally was only thought to be between United and City, but I highly doubt it.

  13. Anthony says:

Didn’t say what year though. Could be talking about a past UCL winner perhaps? That does still rule out City, though.

  14. Bof says:

I wouldn’t underestimate Hulk neither Neymar or Hazard. Toz’ and Jarren’s point is that they play in “sub-mediocre leagues”.

In my humble opinion, Premier League Football is overrated. E.g. see how ManU got torn into pieces by Bilbao. Or ManCity didn’t even pass the group stages of the Champions League. Of course, Chelskov won that cup, but they looked everything but convincing. And I wonder how England will be doing at the EURO2012.

  15. Eddy says:

@ Toz/Jarren I would still say that the French league is pretty strong think about Lyon marseille the money spent by psg and the winners were montpellier lots of competition more than say la liga…

  16. Milkchew says:

I seriously do wish people would stop saying `Oh he couldnt have gone to United as he wants to play the number ten role, Rooney has the number ten shirt!` . He wants to play the role not the frigging shirt number! Two different things!

  17. Your mom says:

@ Toz : Hazard will clearly not be a flop. He is an amazing player (best Ligue 1 player two years in a row) and I guarantee him success in EPL !

  18. chimpo says:

@Anthony- you beat me to it…

the follow up tweet will be: “.. to a Champions league winnner… in the 2000s”

  19. Toz says:

Well, I wasn’t refering to Hazard when I said sub-mediocre league. I think highly of League One although the defensive aspect of it doesn’t make it exciting to watch.

As for why I think highly of League One, it’s obviously one of the most competitive leagues. Excluding the fact that Lyon won seven titles in a row a few years back, it has been a relatively competitive league none the less. With the highest number of titles per club is ten, and it’s shared. Same can’t be said for Portugal or Scotland.

  20. John says:

Pies can you confirm this? I wouldn’t be surprised if this is what actually happened.

@John: It would appear that the deal is 99% done, though nothing has been officially announced by Chelsea or Lille quite yet.
