You remember Maicon right? Inter’s flying Brazilian right-back? From three years ago? Still provides a bone fide ‘goal of the season’ contender once a year, every year? Well he’s joined Man City today with several well-placed City sources claiming the fee to be as low as £3 million – which is a bargain whichever way you look at it…

After being bumped by Pablo Zabaleta and with Maicon now ahead of his in the queue, surely the time has now come for Micah Richards to get the hell out of Dodge?

  1. Nick B says:

He’s had some pretty bad injury problems, and been very patchy over the last couple of seasons. £3 million is still a decent price, but I’m surprised he’s got another top club, I thought he’d slip down the table a bit

@Cris: Why is there no deadline day live(ish) blog this time? I was hoping you’d keep us updated about all the superb last-minute signings which come in by the second.

  3. Fnarf says:

The only thing I remember about Maicon in the past couple of years is the way Gareth Bale zipped past him like a commuter passing a tourist on the escalator over and over in the Champions League a while back. Still one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. Washed up, isn’t he?

  4. mrp33 says:

    “Taxi for Maicon”

  5. Mr Sensible says:

Guess he fits into Mancini’s odd new 343 formation that hasn’t looked like being that great so far.

  6. pipa says:

@Mr Sensible, you mean 3-5-2? I personally don’t think it’s ever gonna work for Man City, it’s just too defensive the way they play it. No control of the centre.

  7. Applesauce says:

I have it from a highly credible source that his contract precludes him from playing Spurs for some reason. Something about a “G.B.” clause…

  8. nyn4 says:

As an Inter supporter, I just feel the need to say that while Bale really did tear Maicon apart, he was rushed back from injury for that match, and facing an in-form jet doesn’t help your cause. Sure, he’s not the same player he once was, but he’s still class, and the defensive part of his game is usually overlooked with the lazy “Brazilian Fullback” stereotype. He still has a few years in him.

  9. ibrahimovic's nose says:

    Nah, he’s still pretty incredible.

  10. One England Captain says:

I’m sure when he compares medal hauls with Bale he’ll feel okay about a couple of duff performances.
