Bienvenue! This is how Newcastle decked out their club canteen to welcome their 14-strong French-speaking legion to dinner on deadline day…

You can almost hear ‘La Marseillaise’ playing in the background.

As for the menu, it too was suitably Gallic…

Nicely done.

Much as the club laid on a platter of curried goat for Senegalese duo Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse upon their arrival, it seems that Newcastle will happily go out of their way to help their newbies settle in – it’s lovely to see.

@yolo: Yeah but you’d be amazed at how a language goes much more beyond simply words.

There’s a whole culture built up around French speaking countries, in a very French vein.

Just look at Montreal, Canada. They live literally 2 hours drive from Ottawa but they’re about as similar to people from Ontario as the English are to the French.

Go to Toronto and you’ll get a very English vibe.

I say fair play to Newcastle, it’s great that they’re welcoming their new contingent with such open arms.

I just hope they can pull Newcastle away from that relegation area ASAP.

The Toon Army don’t deserve another relegation so soon, especially after the highs of last year.

On the link you posted above with a list of current and former players (of Newcastle) and their nationalities, it say Gabi Obertan is from Mars?
