Liverpool Sign Prolific Striker On Free Transfer

Liverpool have agreed to sign Serbian striker Milan Jovanovic from Standard Liege. The Belgian club’s star forward, 28, is out of contract at the end of the season and is reported to have agreed a three-year contract with Liverpool, having already turned down Everton and then revealed reservations that he wouldn’t figure in Rafa Benitez’s first team.
Jovanovic will join the Reds this summer. His track record is encouraging (12 goals in 23 appearances so far this season), but then Belgium’s top league is no match for the Prem, so you wonder if he’ll be a hit or – shudder! – the new Andriy Voronin. One thing is certain – the fact that Jovanovic once called Everton a “small club” – Rafa did the same, I recall – will endear him to the red side of Liverpool before he has even kicked a ball in front of The Kop.

In all fairness, much as it amuses me to see Liverpool’s plight, if this is true it’s a good deal.
Jovanovic is a player I’ve watched for a couple of years, and he’s pretty sharp in front of goal. He’s been a star of the Serbian national side recently and could be one to watch in the summer.
He’s quite quick, and you have to wonder how quickly that will fade given he’s 28 already, but he doesn’t need a lot of time on the ball, so he’ll probably adapt well to the Premiership.
Criticism of the Belgian league might be a little misplaced here. Fellaini & Kompany don’t appear to have had much trouble adjusting to life at the big table.

Well he’s too good for the Belgian league, that is fact.
We’ll just have to wait and see if he’s any good for the Prem.
I hope he’ll do fine at Liverpool, but they got to give him some minutes and not let him rot on the bench.
He’s a versatile player, but without enough motivation to perform, he gets kinda invisible on the pitch.
But hey, he’s better than Voronin, that’s gotta mean something.
