Having completed a medical this very afternoon according to the Mail, Bacary Sagna is on the very cusp of joining the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy (and Niall Quinn and David Seaman for that matter) by leaving Arsenal to join Manchester City after agreeing what is being described as a “mega” three-year deal with the Premier League champions.

Sagna, 31, will leave The Emirates on a free transfer after rejecting three contract offers from the Gunners over the past few months, all understood to be a significant amount lower than the £100,000-a-week he was holding out for.

The French right-back will now officially join City on July 1st after shaking on a £120,000-a-week contract.

While we’re fairly sure that not many Arsenal fans would begrudge Sagna his pay rise given his dedicated services to the club over the last seven years, we can’t help but wonder what City are going to do with two first-rate right-backs at their disposal.

It’s hardly as if Pablo Zabaleta needs replacing or rotating out, now is it? Will one of them be switching to the left? Seems a bit of a waste as far as we’re concerned.

Any thoughts, Pies fans?

So if Aurier is to become a Gunner (according to oh so many reports), could Richards also switch for Arsenal, since there’s been a lot of rumours of that happening as well? What would Wenger do then? Perhaps it’ll be better for Richards to move elsewhere? My mind cannot comprehend that right now.

Sagna is just the biggest name they’d heard of recently, so out comes the checkbook. Man City’s track record of busts attests their “buy now, think about it later” policy.
