Spanish newspaper MARCA has reported that Bayern Muncih and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has agreed a move to Real Madrid for the rather reasonable sum of  €25million.

The 24-year-old has played a pivotal role in Germany’s march into the last eight of the World Cup and has also established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world in his time in Munich.

Considering Luke Shaw cost Manchester United a whopping €30million, this is surely superb business for the Madrid giants?

Kroos had been linked before with a move to the Red Devils who instead splashed out  €36million on the far-less experienced 24-year-old Ander Herrera.

As for Bayern, with Kroos failing to sign a new contract and his currently deal ending in a year, it was a case of cashing in on the classy star now or losing him for nowt later on.

    To think that €25 million for a player is considered reasonable really sucks.

    At the risk of sounding very North American, I really wish you Europeans had a salary cap and some sort of transfer maximum. I don’t know about you all but it’s so boring right now; the big 3 or 4 in each league winning everything all the time.

    @ Steve-O: 25m € for a player like Kroos is very reasonable, he’s top-notch!

    “the big 3 or 4 in each league winning everything all the time” – It’s always been like that, this is not the NFL. A salary cup would be nice though, considering no one really gives a fuck about financial fair play.

    Though i am pleased with Herrera’s transfer, i cannot hide my disappointment in missing out on a world class player. £25 million is peanuts for Toni Kroos who would strengthen any side in the middle. Unless LvG know’s something more we would always be left in the mist!

    and then much like america all teams would be equally crap. id rather some of the good players were gathered together so we can see some good football. we have the champions league for competition

    @Wynton

    Until the majority of teams can spend €25 million on one player then I will only disagree that it is reasonable. I remember Celtic meeting AC Milan in the Champions League a season or so ago. Neil Lennon was asked about AC Milan’s injury problems, which they were having at the time. He laughed and said that any team who could spend €7 million on a player (Matri) would get no sympathy from him (or something along those similar lines). €7 million. And that’s Celtic, hardly a small club.

    I knew NFL would be the easiest one to compare to but I’m Canadian and hockey is the name of the game where I live. The NHL introduced a salary cap only a few years ago and the results have been amazing. New teams winning each year. Extremely competitive league. Etc. That’s what I would hope for in Europe, but it’s a pipedream, I know.

    It’s an obscene amount of money, but in the current market, it’s a reasonable price.
