Brendan Rodgers has wasted little time in spending some of that £75million earned from the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona. With Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can already brought in this summer and a number of others set to follow, the Reds have now officially signed Benfica winger Lazar Markovic.

The 20-year-old Serbian international came to prominence with Partizan Belgrade before moving to the Portuguese top tier in 2013. With Benfica, Markovic thrived and was a key component in the Super Eagles’ domestic treble last season as well as their Europa League campaign which saw them reach the final, only to lose. Although having seen red in the semi-final, the Serbian attacker missed the final against Sevilla.

The questions remains, however, if Liverpool’s new recruits can fill the gap left by the outstanding Suarez.
