“I feel…ALIVE!”
God knows what happened to Arsene Wenger out there in Brazil, but he’s come back to London a changed man as Arsenal gird themselves to spunk another £43million in the transfer market following the already pricey acquisitions of Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy.
First up, Wenger is reportedly on the very verge of signing Southampton defender Calum Chambers – a 19-year-old England U21 right/centre-back with 25 senior appearances to his name – for a healthy £16million.
It is thought that young Chambers will be brought in to initially provide incredibly costly cover both at right-back and in the centre of defence.
Elsewhere, the Guardian are reporting that Southampton have also told the Gunners they will have to cobble together £27million’s worth of loose change if they want to buy Morgan Schneiderlin as the dramatic (though incredibly lucrative) purging of their squad continues.
The Saints really are paying the price for last season’s success, with Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw and Mauricio Pochettino already gone, Dejan Lovren having a medical at Liverpool and now two further defensive players on their way up the Arse.
Serves ’em bloody well right for winning all those games!
