Arsene Wenger caused a flurry of excitement this morning when word spread that the Arsenal manager had been spotted flying out to Rome on transfer deadline day.

Fervour grew as the names of potential Rome-based signings were proffered forth by roused Arsenal fans, only for all of their nascent hopes and dreams to be dashed against the rocks of reality when it emerged that their dear leader had chosen today of all days to fly out to Italy to take part in a charity match.
