By the time Winston Reid’s new West Ham contract runs out, we’ll all be wearing silver tunics and pootling around floating hyper-cities in driverless wheelie pods.

Putting paid, at least theoretically, to supposed interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, the Hammers have signed the Kiwi centre-back up on a massive six-and-a-half-year deal, reportedly worth around £19.5million – somewhere around the £58,000-a-week mark.

That’s an awful lot of money.

As confirmed by West Ham co-owner David Gold this morning, Reid is tied to the club until the summer of 2021, following fellow first-team regulars James Tomkins and Mark Noble in signing on for the long haul.

Reid told the official West Ham site:

“At the end of the day, for myself I feel comfortable here. I was speaking with the Joint-Chairman David Sullivan and everybody and felt like I was valued here.

“My family are happy living here too. We’ve been part of the club living in London, so we weighed all the factors up and I’m delighted to be staying here.”

How about that? Seems that Big Sam did get Jack Bauer in to conduct the contract negotiations after all!

It can’t have been Jack Bauer. He would have executed him one he’d signed the contract
