Agent Claims £900k-A-Week Won’t Keep Raheem Sterling At Liverpool, Calls Jamie Carragher A ‘Knob’

Wonderful. Just when you thought the Raheem Sterling saga may reach a resolution with at least a minuscule slither of dignity, the Liverpool winger’s Mr 15% goes and atomises all trace of professionalism.

Sterling’s agent Aidy Ward has been heavily criticised from all quarters for his role in the increasingly tedious Sterling quagmire, but he’s repeatedly held his ground while hinting that it was Liverpool themselves who leaked details of the negotiations and dragged it all out into the open in the first place, not him.

After a fresh wave of opprobrium, Ward (who also ‘advises’ Saido Berahino) has defended himself and his client in an astonishingly crass rant to the Evening Standard in which the tone was lowered once again.

“I don’t care about the PR of the club and the club situation. I don’t care,” he yammered to the Standard.

“He is definitely not signing. He’s not signing for £700,000, £800,000, £900,000-a-week. He is not signing.

“My job is to make sure I do the best with them (my clients). If people say I am bad at my job, or they are badly advised it does not matter.”

Floundering. I think the word we’re looking for is ‘floundering’.

Of late, several ex-Liverpool players including Graeme Souness, Mark Lawrenson, Jan Molby and John Barnes have criticised Sterling for having the temerity to even think about leaving their once-great club in search of something else; something more.

However, it was Jamie Carragher’s assertion that Sterling should “keep his mouth shut and get on with playing football” (as well as dumping his agent) that really rubbed Ward up the wrong way.

“Carragher is a knob. Everybody knows it,” Ward continued.

“I am not worried. Worried is making a decision not knowing what is going to happen. Every premier league club will make a bid for him.”

“Any of the criticism from current pundits or ex-Liverpool players – none of them things matter to me. It is not relevant.”

Yes, we all know what’s relevant to Mr Ward don’t we?

However, it perhaps should be noted in the interest of full disclosure that talkSPORT are reporting Ward has denied saying any such thing.

UPDATE: Ward himself has told Sky Sports that he denies the quotes being attributed to him in the Evening Standard and that he is now seeking legal advice over the article in question.

Which makes us wonder if there’s a man out there posing as an agent advising Raheem Sterling?

Any road up, Liverpool fans have yet to retract or deny their earlier collective statement that Ward is a gigantic appendage.

At the time of writing, that still stands.
