Petr Cech is now very nearly an Arsenal player, or at least so it would appear

Not that it’s the most accurate barometer of things, but for what it’s worth bookmakers are now starting to suspend betting on Petr Cech moving to Arsenal.

Betfair were the first to close their market after a receiving a sudden flurry of bets from punters on Cech moving to the Emirates, even with odds as short as 1/10.

“We have suspended betting on Petr Cech to sign for Arsenal after a flood of bets came in on the north London club and punters were willing to back Arsenal at odds as short as 1/10,” confirmed Betfair football trader Michael Bowers.

“[Manchester] United were initially 10/11 favourites to sign him, but it looks like the 33-year-old is set to stay in London, where Arsenal will be hoping he can boost their title chances next season.”

Cech has gone on record as stating that he’d prefer to stay in London to avoid having to uproot his young family.

Chelsea, on the other hand, were keen to flog him to PSG to avoid the Czech ‘keeper from falling into the clutches of their rivals and giving up all their deepest, darkest secrets – of which, there are presumably many.

As a little bonus, we’re chucking in these photos of the new goalkeeper shirts that will be awaiting Cech as and when he finally boards the good ship Arsenal…
