With rumours of a third bid of £24million being knocked back by West Brom already today, Saido Berahino has found himself warned against moving to potential suitors Newcastle as they continue to flirt with relegation.

Since throwing a wobbler and storming off to his bedroom when West Brom blocked his move to Tottenham back in September, Berahino has spent the past five months in exile at the Hawthorns, appearing a just handful of times.

While the Baggies have openly stated that they have no intention of letting him leave in the January window, it’s being reported that Newcastle have lodged a succession of successful bids on deadline day in the knowledge that the 22-year-old is chomping at the bit to escape his Pulisian hell hole.

However, appearing on the TalkSport breakfast show, Danny Murphy advised the young striker to thoroughly assess the situation before making the leap:

If you’re his agent or his dad, there is no way you could advise him to go to Newcastle at the moment.

That would be ludicrous because he could be a Championship player in six months’ time, and he certainly wouldn’t be in contention for the England squad then.

Newcastle have 21 points so far and are currently tucked just inside the drop zone, two points behind 17th-placed Norwich.

In contrast, West Brom are riding way up high in 14th place with a whopping 28 points to their name.

Basically, Berahino’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t – and it’s a dismal conundrum entirely of his own making.

He could just as easily be a Championship player if he stays at West Brom. Newcastle have signed more quality players this window and the future looks bright. I’d tell Murphy to stick to commentary work, but he’s rubbish at that too. Does anyone actually care about his opinions anyway?

I remember seeing a BBC interview with him a few years ago.

He seemed so humble. His upbringing was fraught with relocation & sadness. I think he had just scored against United at Old Trafford the previous week, grabbing the winner (or was it both goals).

I had real hope for him. I still do.

But he needs to get a hold of himself. Get real.

Why wouldn’t he be in contention for the England squad? Oh right, you can be an amazing player, but unless you are in the EPL you’re not worthy.

Don’t recall Juve dropping Buffon when he spent a season in Serie B…
