West Ham have responded promptly to tittle-tattle involving Dimitri Payet and his immediate future by confirming that they’ve opened talks over a new and improved contract with the French virtuoso.

Rumours spread that an unnamed Chinese team were positioned to lodge a vast £38million bid for Payet and waft £135,000-a-week wages in his general direction to woo the winger to the Chinese Super League.

Those whispers were coupled with reports that Payet’s agent had demanded a new deal worth £125,000-a-week for his client to stay at The Hammers.

However, the club have since issued an official statement in which they catergorically deny both stories before confirming that they’re in the process of cobbling together a contract extension for the man recently hailed by Slaven Bilic as West Ham’s best player.

Following reports in today’s media, West Ham United would like to clarify that at no time have Dimitri Payet or his agent made any demands to the Club over a new contract.

However, the club can confirm that due to Dimitri’s outstanding impact since his arrival at the Boleyn Ground, they have initiated amicable and productive talks about an improvement and extension to his contract.

This was backed up by a defiant Tweet from the man himself in which he declared he was proud to wear the shirt, etc, etc…

So, all in all, great news for Hammers fans. It looks like your boy is hanging around for the foreseeable.

Just for the sheer heck of it, here he is ripping it up in training this morning…
