Darren Bent is an excellent Premiership striker who has long been linked with a (give or take the odd quid) £10 million move to a top club. Why then would he move to West Ham – a club which could easily have been playing Championship football with Charlton Athletic next season? And why would the Hammers pay so much over the odds for him?
Bent might have been an £18 million striker in the transfer market of a few years back, but these days that money could buy you two Michael Owens. The price has apparently been set by Charlton chief executive Peter Varney, but Pies reckons West Ham would be getting ripped off if they do splash the cash. If West Ham do have the odd £18 million knocking around, should the money be spent on Bent?
