Willy Caballero has switched the Ethad for Stamford Bridge, with the 35-year goalkeeper joining Chelsea on a free transfer.

Argentinian veteran Caballero moved to Manchester City from Malaga in 2014 and proved to be a solid back-up goalkeeper, deputising for Joe Hart and, more recently, Claudio Bravo.

However, with Asmir Begovic leaving Chelsea for Bournemouth this summer, the Blues were themselves in need of an experienced no.2 ‘keeper, with Caballero fitting the bill.

On making the move to west London, Caballero said:

I am very happy to join Chelsea, the champions of England. I am looking forward to meeting the guys and helping the club achieve more success in the coming season.

Cabellero made 26 appearances for the Citizens under Pep Guardiola last season, making a superb penalty save from Monaco striker Falcao in the Champions League Last-16.

Indeed, with Chelsea back in the Champions League next season, Caballero will no doubt be called upon throught the campaign to take some of the pressure of Blues’ no.1 Thibaut Courtois.
