One of the longest running transfer rumours of the summer has finally reached its conclusion, with Leicester City coughing up a reported £25m for the services of Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
The 20-year-old looked set for a glittering career with the Citizens, netting 21 goals in 64 games since his debut for the club in 2015.
However, the arrival of Brazilian hitman Gabriel Jesus in January meant that the Nigerian’s time at the Etihad would ultimately come to a premature end.
On signing the five-year-deal, Iheanacho said:
It feels good and I’m happy to be part of this team.
I know the ambition of the team and speaking with the manager, he let me know what I need to do – to help the team achieve what they want.
I was convinced and I’m happy to be here.
Indeed, the striker is so happy with the move he is literally walking on air…
Iheanacho is Craig Shakespeare’s fourth summer signing, following goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic, defender Harry Maguire and midfielder Vicente Iborra.
One wonders if Pep Guardiola will live to rue the sale of the extremely talented Iheancho, despite City’s summer spending spree.
