Word has it that Everton are poised to blow their Christmas money on a striker in the January sales, with Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun top of their wish list.

According to Ed Aarons of the Guardian, the deal has already been struck after the Toffees saw their £25million offer accepted by their Turkish counterparts…

Tosun is a 26-year-old forward, very much of the cut-inside-and-let-rip school, who has plundered 12 goals in 22 appearances for Besiktas so far this season.

He has also made it his business to specialise in scoring the best goal of the Champions League group stage, having done so – in an official, UEFA-award-winning capacity, no less – for the past two years on the bounce.

Given we live in an age where centre-halves are commanding £75million fees, flittering away a positively parsimonious £25million on an in-form striker who is doubtlessly going to have more impact at Goodison than Sandro Ramirez (as in, zero impact) seems like a bit of a snip.
