Arsenal have more or less confirmed that their deal to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund is complete after failing to keep it tight at the back end once again.

An official announcement is still forthcoming, but the club themselves appear to have accidentally leaked the news ahead of schedule.

Shortly after last night’s feeble defeat against Swansea, the Gunners posted an article on their website that was supposed to feature a snippet of Arsene Wenger’s post-match interview in which the Frenchman decried his side’s general lack of appetite.

However, the segment of video incorporated into the report actually saw Wenger confirming that Aubameyang is indeed now an Arsenal player.

“Arsene, Aubameyang is an Arsenal player, you must be delighted to get the deal done?” the reporter asks Wenger in the tunnel at the Liberty Stadium.

He replies: “Yes, it’s good news. We need people who can give us more offensive power.

“We aren’t efficient enough going forward and hopefully I’m convinced he will bring us that.”

The video remained up on the Arsenal website for several hours before it was stripped down early on Wednesday morning.

Who knows, maybe it was just a desperate attempt to deflect attention from the miserable performance that preceded it?
