PSG have today been able to seal the permanent transfer of Kylian Mbappe after triggering the requisite clause in the teenage striker’s loan deal.

The Parisians initially signed Mbappe on a one-year loan from Monaco, ostensibly to make sure that his vastly expensive acquisition didn’t take place during the same financial year as Neymar’s £200million mega-move from Barcelona. FFP be damned, and all that.

Said loan deal included a stipulation that, should PSG managed to successfully preserve their Ligue 1 status this season, Mbappe’s deal could be made permanent.

Sure enough, a comprehensive 5-2 victory over Strasbourg at the weekend (which, ironically, Mbappe missed due to suspension) means that the club’s battle against relegation is now officially and mathematically over this season – thus securing the 19-year-old’s services for the next four years.

Huzzah. Don’t you just love it when a £166million plan comes together?

For the record, PSG are currently 12 points clear at the top of Ligue 1, with Mbappe having contributed 15 goals and 14 assists in 32 appearances thus far.

Jolly is not a word I throw about. But this footballing prodigy really is a jolly good piece of kit. A real diamond in the bloody rough. He shows us all how it is supposed to be done. I am pleasantly surprised that PSG have managed to secure his services for such a long and arduous timescale. He will be greatly appreciated on the banks of the Seine and in the hearts of all.

    Cheers
