We’re sure it’s merely a coincidence, but several journalists from several different papers seem to have come by a four-man shortlist on Tuesday morning containing the names of prospective new managers Arsenal have supposedly earmarked to replace Arsene Wenger.

Word is that the Gunners’ “power brokers” are keen to review Wenger’s position at the end of the season despite the Frenchman having a further year left on his contract.

Those four names are Leonardo Jardim (currently at Monaco), Joachim Low (Germany), Mikel Arteta (Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Man City) and Brendan Rodgers (Celtic).

The general consensus is that Jardim is the preferred candidate at the moment, with Low having not coached at club level for almost 15 years and Arteta, while an ex-Arsenal man, still a little too inexperienced to take on the mantle.

Which leaves Rodgers, whose inclusion is jarring enough to make you feel his name may have been leaked purposefully by Wenger to bolster support behind himself.

Can you just imagine? Brendan, The Group™, Character™, motivational envelopes, teeth veneers and spray tans, Ozil out; Musonda and Roberts in, endless consultancy jargon, refusing to mention Wenger by name, referring to his players as “warriors of spirit” after a 0-2 away defeat against Tottenham, fifth place, glory?

It must happen. It simply must.
