Sunderland have confirmed via their official website that they have wrapped up a deal to sign Paraguayan international midfielder Cristian Riveros from Mexican side Cruz Azul.
The 27-year-old will join The Black Cats for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal after representing his country at this summer’s World Cup.
Riveros, who has been capped 45 times by Paraguay (notching 8 goals), told SAFC.com;
“The league here is very competitive and Sunderland have shown trust in me as a person and as a footballer. The history here is good and I’m delighted to be joining the club.”
Given manager Steve Bruce’s track-record in the South American transfer market, it now stands to reason that Sunderland fans can almost guarantee Riveros will be sold on for at least double his initial fee in a couple of seasons time.
