Of course it’s probably complete bunk dredged from the clear blue ether, but reports in Italy are suggesting that Parma have expressed an interest in signing Peter Crouch from relegated Stoke City.

Parma secured their passage back up into Serie A last season, three years after being demoted to Serie D as a result of going bankrupt.

To bolster their assault on the top tier, the Gialloblu are hankering after the spindliest target man in the game.

According to Calcio Mercato – who, in all honesty, are hardly bastions of credibility when it comes to transfer rumblings – the freshly-promoted side are having a good, long look at Crouch while they mull things over.

Parma have an English idea for their attack (next season). The club is thinking of Peter Crouch, whose contract with Stoke expires in 2019.

He may be 37, but it’s not like time has or will ever ravage Crouch’s preeminent assets – namely his link-up play, his positioning, and the fact that he’s a clear foot taller than almost ever centre-back he’s ever played against.

While we appreciate the rumour is probably spurious at best, we’d bloody love to see Crouchy, all elbows and angles, having a late-career crack at Calcio.

Good luck to him, I hope it’s true. Here’s hoping it works out better for him than it did for Hart, though the team realities are different.
