Xherdan Shaqiri is reportedly mere hours away from being confirmed as a Liverpool player after the club struck a £13.75million deal with Stoke City to purchase the Swiss winger.

According to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, Shaqiri brought a premature end to his post-World Cup holiday to travel back to England to undergo a medical.

The 26-year-old is due at Melwood today, where he will be given a medical once-over before the terms of his transfer are finalised.

If everything goes to plan, the deal could well be announced before the weekend is out.

On the surface, you wouldn’t naturally assume that Shaqiri is the type of player Jurgen Klopp would be interested in (very individualistic, tends to shoot on sight, propensity for the odd strop) but obviously the Reds boss feels that he’s worth a punt at that comparatively low price.

Moulding Shaqiri into a selfless, relentlessly energetic team player could well prove to be one heck of a job.
