Raheem Sterling has reportedly struck a provisional agreement with Man City over a new long-term contract.

According to several sources, including Sky Sports News, Sterling has “verbally agreed” a five-year extension that will see £300,000 funnelled into his bank account every seven days.

Just think of the grievous reaction in the Daily Mail newsroom.

Sterling’s current deal at the Etihad expires in summer 2020 and there had been murmurings of late that renewal talks had reached an impasse. However, it looks like City have returned to the table with an offer that is far too hefty to spurn.

Indeed, should the numbers being bandied about turn out to be correct, Sterling will become the highest paid English player in existence and the first Englishman to surpass the £100million mark in career earnings, once all of his various bonuses and commercial income are factored in.

Not bad for a lad of 23.

    “career earnings”

Come on, now. ‘Earning’ and ‘taking home’ are two totally different things. Doctors, nurses and firefighters earn their wages (and should be paid a lot, lot more for what they do). Someone who runs around a patch of grass, using their feet to move an inflated pig’s bladder from one place to another a couple of times a week doesn’t ‘earn’ £300k per week, I’m sorry.
