Middlesbrough have added to their midfield ranks by procuring John Obi Mikel on a short-term deal.

Mikel, who is still only 31, has signed up for the rest of the season having most recently been employed over in China with Tianjin TEDA.

Speaking to the Boro website, manager Tony Pulis had this to say:

I’m pleased to get him in. He is a man with a lot of experience and quality.

He has a winning mentality and he wants to be here be a part of what we are looking to achieve.

With over 400 games for Chelsea, Premier League titles, a Champions League win and vast international experience, Mikel is certainly a seasoned campaigner that will bring a little extra dominance to the Boro midfield.

That said, we can’t see him and his one solitary career league goal addressing the overriding issue of Pulis’ team being one of the dullest attacking forces in the Championship.
