Girondins De Bordeaux have distanced themselves from claims that Arsenal are on the verge of completing a move for their highly-rated midfielder Yoann Gourcuff.

The 23-year-old French international has been widely tipped as the man Arsene Wenger wants to bring in as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas should the Spaniard depart for Barcelona this summer, however, Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud told L’Equipe magazine that he refuses to be drawn into such speculation;

“I’m not going to comment on anything from the English newspapers. Today, I have received no offer for Gourcuff or anybody else for that matter. We know what the English tabloids are like…

One day Fabregas was going to Barcelona, everything was done, and I just saw Wenger say that Fabregas will stay in London. I will not be drawn into this game.”

    @Shane: Definitely some shades of Zizou there.

  2. chet says:

    yea this would make sense if cesc was actually leaving.

  3. Deckard says:

    If Cesc has lost the will to play for Arsenal then Wenger won’t hold on to a player who’s heart isn’t in the right place. Gourcuff would be a good replacement, I think he has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the world.

    He def could bring the va va voom back to Arsenal. I never thought I could imagine a scenario where I’d hope Cesc goes back to Barca… oh la la.

  7. Sarah says:

    if him & cesc played in the same team, arsenal would surely be the sexiest team in the epl.

  8. Neutr says:

    Wenger should bring that player (sweetie) if he wants some better team.

    If Cesc stays I think that nobody will be happy. Let him go. He deserves that :(. Cesc is now sad, he wants to leave Arsenal and the best solution will be to sell him :)
