He’s gone from the country’s most expensive signing to a misfiring misfit who’s struggling to command a transfer fee, but Andriy Shevchenko still has his admirers.
There’s been rumours that his former club and Ukrainian champions, Dynamo Kiev, want him to return home – as long as it’s on loan.
Dynamo president, Igor Surkis, made remarks reported on the club’s website.
“I’m ready to pay his salary instead of the Chelsea board but I’m not ready to reimburse 45 million dollars (£22.5million) to Abramovich for him,†he said.
It’s a similar stance taken by another of his more fondly remembered clubs, AC Milan, who were willing to take him back for a fraction of the fee they extorted from Chelsea.
We kept waiting for him to come good last season, but it never happened – so should Shevchenko be offered one more drink at the Last Chance Chelsea Saloon, or is it time to call last orders?
