A little bird has whispered in Pies’ ears that Arsenal are on the cusp of securing the £10 million signing of Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny, and it is thought that the 24-year-old’s move to the Emirates will be officially rubber-stamped later this afternoon.

The French-born Polish-eligible defender is expected to team up with the Arsenal players who have returned to the club’s Hertfordshire training complex this week ahead of their traditional pre-season friendly at Barnet on July 17.

With William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre and possibly Sol Campbell all set to leave the club this summer, manager Arsene Wenger is understandably desperate to bring in some central-defensive cover.

UPDATE: Arsenal have confirmed on their website that Koscielny has indeed completed his move to the Emirates, signing on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.

The site also has pictures of the defender sporting the two new Arsenal kits.

Would the little bird happen to be the entire universe? :P

This has been in the offing for a fair while now. A Lorient director has confirmed the move as well.

Koscielny and Vermaelen, who would’ve guessed this CB pairing a year ago?

Hes going to be crap, why don’t we ever sign quality well established players. All this talk of, Mexes, Ozil, Van Der Vaart, Joe Cole ect. Will never happen because there quality players and we dont buy them. we buy mediocre players from a team that finished 7TH! in the FRENCH! league. Sort it out Arsene. I belive in the man with all my heart, but this is to low.
