fayewhitecup.gifThis is the first in a series of posts aimed at familiarising you with some of the England ladies. Let me just state for the sake of my conscience that I have a problem with comparing female athletes to men, for all sorts of ranty feminist reasons that I won’t bore you with now. But it’s a simple way to find out a bit more about the girls who’re out in China, and gives me an opportunity to poke fun at the likes of Tony Adams, so everyone’s a winner.

Faye White
plays at the heart of Arsenal’s and England’s defence with all the same majesty and lion-heartedness as the legendary Gunners captain, and also wears the armband for both. She’s tall, assured, and has a head that could demolish houses. And the bonus for Hope Powell is that White never turns up for training stubbly, reeking of booze and slurring her words.

I met Faye White once at an Arsenal Ladies game. And she was really great. Spoke to all the kids and was a fantastic ambassador for the team. The Tony Adams analogy is bang on – she is an incredible leader on the pitch
