Newcastle United have signed midfielder Dan Gosling on a four-year deal after the promising 20-year-old was allowed to walk out of Everton following an ‘administration error‘ of pretty epic proportions.

The Toffees failed to submit a written contract to Gosling before the cut off date in May, and as a result the England U21 international was free to leave the club on a free transfer at the beginning of July.

Gosling is currently recuperating from a serious long-term knee injury and will be unable to feature for Newcastle for at least the next two months, although it hasn’t diminished his excitement at joining the newly-promoted side;

“It’s a brilliant move for me. Now that the deal is done I just can’t wait to get started.

I’ve played at St. James’ Park before and know all about the amazing atmosphere.

Playing there in a black and white shirt is something I’ve thought about already and it will be a great day when I finally get to walk out in front of 50,000 people.”

    As you rightly say hes “promising” but thats all at this stage. I think its a backward step for the lad going to Newcastle but will always luv him for putting one in the redshite net to put them out the cup. Good luck Dan i wish you well.

    The Admin error was actually a gentlemans agreement between Kenright and the lad, he was told that when his contract expired he would be given a 16K a week deal and he agreed, he decided to renage on after Jack the lad came to prominence and goose was no longer the next great young player. Money is tight for us but we will survive, whilst he will be afforded a barmbys welcome when returns to the hallowed turf the people he has managed to judas the most are plymouth who due to his lack of honour will recieve no signing on bonus. Am I a bitter blue, yeah a little but odds were on we would have had to ship him out soon due to a lack of space in the middle and his departure means that Lukas Jutkiewicz will probably stay and he is coming along nicely, Gosling will probably end up failing at Newcastle as he needs games after injury and newly promoted team cannot afford flair players (silly boy).
    rant over
