Veteran defender Sol Campbell has signed a one-year deal with Newcastle United after passing a medical and agreeing terms with the club late last night.
The finishing touches were then applied to the deal this morning and the transfer has now officially gone through.
Campbell has already spoken of his excitement at joining the newly-promoted club, telling the Chronicle;
“I can’t wait to show [the Newcastle fans] what I can do. At this stage of my career I couldn’t have wished for a better move.
To join a club such as Newcastle United, with its proud tradition, heritage and magnificent support, is absolutely tremendous for me. I just want to play and can’t wait to get started
There’s a real buzz about the place and that’s great I’ve played at St James’ Park numerous times and always found it a fantastic place to play, there’s always a tremendous atmosphere”
Campbell apparently rejected an identical offer (one year, £30,000-a-week in wages) from Arsenal in order to join Newcastle – make of that what you will.
