If his agent is to believed, Villarreal veteran Marcos Senna is being lined up by Barcelona as a cut-price replacement for Yaya Toure, who left the club to join Manchester City at the turn of the month.

Senna’s representative, Eli Coimbria, told El Mundo Deportivo;

“[A move to Barcelona] would be the crowning moment of [Senna’s] sporting career. I’m certain that if Barca speak to Villarreal, the club’s directors won’t put up any obstacles to stop him from leaving.

In these eight years at the club, Senna has never had a problem with the club. On the contrary, he has always been very professional and they would understand that going to Barça would be a unique opportunity.”

Sounds suspiciously like typical agent-engineering spiel to me, but Senna himself is also apparently aware of the interest – telling Spanish reporters during Villarreal’s pre-season tour of the Republic of Ireland;

“For me it’s an honour and a dream that Barca are thinking of me. There’s nothing yet, but just the fact they are thinking of me is an honour.”

Just for the sheer hell of it, here’s a clip of the 34-year-old midfield schemer scoring from the half-way line against Real Betis a couple of years back – a goal he later dubbed ‘the best goal of his life’…

…let’s see Yaya try and do that!
