HOSANNAH! Liverpool and Barcelona have finally agreed a fee (rumoured to be £18.8 million) for want-away midfielder Javier Mascherano, and a statement on the Barca website hints that, as personal terms have already been agreed, a routine medical is now all that stands in the way of the Argentine’s move to the Camp Nou.

The statement reads;

“[Barcelona] have now been given permission to speak to the Argentina midfielder.

We have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Mascherano for the next four seasons. The deal was closed after intensive efforts made by the club in the final hours and through the player himself in the negotiations.

“Barcelona will report the details of the operation once the player passes the medical and the transfer is concluded. It is hoped Javier Mascherano will arrive in Barcelona this weekend.”

It’s over, it’s finally over.

    roy has enough money to get diarra, defour and a good young striker (ruiz or wolfswinkel). given that something very much like that is what can and should be done i naturally assume it won’t at all.

    As was proven against Citeh, we’ll miss his tenacity in midfield. And, as was proven last night against Trabzonspor, Poulsen is shitter than Lucas. Even taking lack of match practice into account, he’s fucking piss poor.

    I just hope we break a recent habit of buying defenders and centre mids and buy some more creative players with the Masch money. Doubt it though.

    Javier Mascherano has been unprofessional and disrupted the Liverpool team, he should have played the game against Manchester City after all he did sign a contract to say he would play when chosen to. So now Liverpool can concentrate on their season, but they have not got long to use the money.
