Word on Rumour Avenue is that Arsenal are seriously considering making a cheeky January bid for Liverpool’s bench-bound defender Daniel Agger, and that they may face competition from their north London rivals Tottenham in doing so.

Agger is known to be tiring of his peripheral life at Anfield, with a recurring back problem and a public ‘difference of opinions’ with manager Roy Hodgson serving to severely limit his availability.

As things stand, the classy Dane has only made three starts for Liverpool this season and it is being speculated that an offer of around £7 million may be enough to swing it in Arsene Wenger‘s favour.

Classy on the ball, versatile on it, a penchant for long-range Exocet’s, relatively cheap and only 25-years-old yet with plenty of international experience, the thought of Daniel Agger in an Arsenal shirt just seems to sit flush, doesn’t it?

It would be a disgrace to loose Agger, he is our best defender at the club. Soto and Skrtel are playing brilliantly though, but there’s no way we should sell Agger.

I think it’s unfair to say outcast. In the first game this season Agger suffered a concussion, and now has a back injury. Also it didn’t help that Liverpool didn’t have a left back at the beginning of the season, had they then Agger would most likely have been picked ahead of Skrtel in the centre. Then it didn’t help that Aurelio and Konchesky picked up injuries meaning Agger once again had to fill in at left back. He’s barely had a chance to show Hodgson how good he is in the centre.

Erm…. Agger in a straight swap for an Arsenal Benchwarmer in Theo Walcott.. yes please.

  4. Pete says:

Utter tosh…..Agger is our best defender. He is injured which is why he isn’t playing. He was only pushed to left back because of injuries to Fabio and Konchesky were both injured and he’s the most versatile defender we have, and therefore most valuable! Rumours about manager and player problems were dismissed about a month ago!

  5. GEBREYESUS says:

I think Ager is still best, but Roy has problem of fearing the fans to ignore Carra and he is the supporter of Conchesky, the slower player. But Ager is best in passing and defending the ball.
I am longing a day his play with Skertel in the center defence. But I also surprised with Sami substitute (Kiarakos), he is really a best defender (of no.5) at the center back.

  6. George says:

Doesn’t sound like a Wenger signing to me. I think he’d be a good buy, but I can’t see it happening personally.

    lie lie lie lol 7mil

  8. PhilandoTorres says:

If fit, Skrtel and Agger would be my first choice CB pairing.

Skrtel has been immense of late. Pleasingly underrated (hopefully he won’t be tapped up by anyone), his reading of the game is fantastic. Give him a few more years and, dare I say it, he could be the new Hyypia.

  9. Billy says:

Both the Owner and Manager have said that they are not going to sell any of their goo player in Jan, so bye bye try again in the summer.

Using already rebuffed rumours as a reason that Agger (only renewed his contract last season) wants out is very poor reporting.

daniel agger is our (liverpool) best defender!

    LOL!!!

Personally,I would suggest putting Daniel Agger in the defensive midfield holding position when he is fit again, to link the defence and midfield aka Xavi Alonso.I reckon with his strong defensive capabilities and his ability to break forward at the right time with control and skill is what this team is missing.Leave Poulsen on the bench and use him for Europa games as he is not up to LFC standard for the rigours of the Premier League.

  14. Pramod says:

Dannie is an outstanding class in his favoured position nd the likes of carra comming to end of his carrer loosing his pace it would b stupid enough to sell as Roy already did to Aquillani who had class in CM, i m not against Roy as he is very experienced coach nd he deserved the position at liverpool, it would have hard enough change the mentality of player from 4-2-3-1 to 4-2-2 but he shouldnt have let aquillani as he was already setteling in good

  15. Braveheart says:

Dammit NO! Agger is too good to let go.

But I must advocate he would make a superb DM. Far superior to Lucas or Poulson. He’s a great defender, but is always eager to push forward when opportunity presents itself, and his passing is fabulous. With a little experience at the position, he could rise to the level of Makelele (sp.?). Meanwhile, he’s a better LB than Conchesky.
