Man City striker Emmanuel Adebayor claims he will move to Juventus on loan in January.

Adebayor told Sport-Foot magazine: “I don’t know what I did wrong to Roberto Mancini, but he never makes me play.

“I can tell you that City has already reached an agreement with Juventus for a loan. I therefore expect to be able to leave.”

It’s not the first time Adebayor has been linked with a move to Juventus, but despite the player’s claims, there is a rather large stumbling block that may prevent the move from happening: Juve already have one non-EU player in their squad, in the form of Serbia’s Milos Krasic (Serie A quota rules prevent Italian clubs from having more than one player from outside the EU – until earlier this year, clubs were allowed two non-EU players). You didn’t expect Adebayor to know about that rule though, did you?

And it really is impossible to love a player who won’t keep his mouth shut.

Surely you have that rule wrong as Inter have close to 20 non-EU players in their squad at present time.. Maybe they are only allowed to sign one non-EU player per season?

  2. Chris says:

As far as I’m aware, the rule is that Italian clubs can only sign one Non-EU player from ‘abroad’ every season – but can sign as many non-EU players as they want from other Italian sides.

  3. Mick says:

I think Italian clubs can “buy” only one non EU player per season. A loan with a summer sale has been muted.

Chris, if that’s true that’s the stupidest rule ever!

What is the logic of being allowed to buy a non-EU player from another Italian club but not from anywhere else?

    … YOU SUCK MATE!

  6. Domm says:

@dani behr The FIGC brought the number down to one from two after Italy’s disastrous World Cup, much to the annoyance of the clubs. As the move was brought in after the World Cup meaning clubs had already developed transfer targets which had to be scrapped.

  7. Batnasan says:

Maybe the idea is that buying a non-EU player from another Italian club would mean the transfer fee stays in the country, maybe helping out smaller clubs financially.

plus getting a non-eu player from another club means that there will not be addition of non-eu player to the league as a whole.
