Scary-eyed Croatia boss Slaven Bilic has slagged off England ahead of the two
sides’ Euro 2008 qualifier next Wednesday. He said our World Cup performance this summer was ‘defensive and boring’. Cheeky bugger.

Bilic told The Sun: ‘They were no good – they were nothing. They were so boring… I have never seen in my life such a great collection of players play as defensively as they did.’ Steady on Slaven.

The former West Ham and Everton defender said he was left lost for words by their overall performance. ‘I couldn’t even explain it to my nine-year-old son. I just don’t know,’ he added.

Bilic is still not won over by new boss Steve
McClaren after England’s dreary 1-0 win in Macedonia last month: ‘I can’t understand why they played so defensively at the World Cup… But they were the same against Macedonia, so I don’t think it was all down to Eriksson.’

Fighting talk if ever I heard it. [Via BBC Sport]
