Comments allegedly made by Liverpool winger Ryan Babel in the Dutch press have sparked speculation that toothy Ajax forward (and Uruguay ‘keeper) Luis Suarez may be on his way to Liverpool, with Babel returning to his former club on loan for the rest of the season as part of the deal.
Babel is quoted as telling De Telegraaf:
“The transfer of Suarez to Liverpool opens the door for me to go back to Ajax.
“If Liverpool and Ajax – whether in combination with Luis – can reach an agreement over me I will surely come to the club. For the chance to play [regularly], I am willing to settle for far less pay.
“For a player of my age it is important to be playing week in week out.”
Well, that came out of nowhere, but I guess it makes sense from a Liverpool perspective.
No matter what the minority of selectively myopic ‘Pool fans would have you believe, Babel is never going to be any better than he is now (he’s had several chances to prove otherwise over the past 18 months) and Suarez is undeniably a proven goal-scorer – albeit at a roughly lower Prem/Championship level…insert your own joke here.
What say you?
