Steven Pienaar arrived at Tottenham’s training ground in Essex earlier today to complete a £2.5m move from Everton (slighly below the Toffees’ asking price). Ya boo sucks, Chelsea.

The 28-year-old midfielder only needs to pass a medical before he signs what is reported to be a four-year contract.

Pienaar confirmed his choice of Spurs over Chelsea via Twitter (how else!?), writing: “To end speculation I am going to Spurs. I’ve had brilliant years at Everton and it will always be a special place in my heart.”

Pienaar also confirmed his shirt number on Twitter: “I can also confirm I’ll be jersey number 40.”

The question is, where will Pienaar play in what is already a crowded Spurs midfield? Arry sure loves his creative midfielders.

  1. Fuzzy Dunlop says:

Lots of games, probable injuries, a 5 man midfield now, surplus other players means:

    Modric
    VdV
    Bale
    Lennon
    Huddlestone
    Pienaar
    Jenas
    Palacios

Plenty of games for Steven I think.

  2. Fuzzy Dunlop says:

Add to the reasons the fact that he’s versatile.

  3. The Yank says:

Love that he picked Spurs over Chelsea. Hate that he picked number 40. Call me a traditionalist, but designated squad numbers should never exceed the number of men in the squad. If there are 25 first team members, 1-25 should be the only numbers. I’m lenient when it comes to the starting XI, but I miss the days when it was always 1-11. Seeing Dinho wear 80 at Milan just looked weird…

    What an absolute steal.

Pienaar sure disappointed me by joining Tot instead of chelsea. well, good luck to him.

Everton fan perspective still pissed at him right now, during the summer he said he would probably sign the contract but he was listening to god, every time we tried to sell him he ducked it and now we have got screwed on the fee making it impossible to replace him.

  7. gamblino says:

I agree with the yank, you shouldn’t even be allowed to pick your own number! And that is the bargain of the century.

  8. Alex says:

    4-4-1-1 formation

Bale-Modric-Pienaar-Lennon across midfield with VdV infront.

    Hud still injured
    Jenas, Niko, Andros midfield subs
    Lose Wilson, he’s totally useless.

    COYS!!!!

levy and arry seem to pull off some amazeing deals.think he would take the place of palacious, but think its not impossible that huddlestone could be sold.rumours that man untd were interested for 15 mil.supposed to be injured.when spurs list players injured his name is not there.great passer ,but weak on defence.just think if pienaar and palacious were the mid field destroyers.pienaar is the far better allround player.great tacklers.
