Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that the club are indeed hankering after Benfica centre-back David Luiz, though he remains unsure as to whether the two parties will be able to come to an agreement before the sand in the transfer window Boggle timer runs out.

Ancelotti told Sky Sports:

“I think that we are trying to find a solution. He is a good player, a very good player, young, and now we have to wait and see.

“We have not agreed [with Benfica], again. We will try, but if it’s not possible, nothing has changed.

“Now, [Luiz] is the only signing that we will try to do. We have to see.”

Depending on your national newspaper of choice, it seems as though Chelsea are either, a) now within the width of a gnat’s nadgers of completing the £25 million signing of Luiz, or b) the deal is as good as ‘dead in the water’.

In short, no-one’s got a frigging clue.
