Word has just broken that, after a morning spent tip-toeing around the houses, Newcastle have finally accepted a bid of £35 million from Liverpool for their bruising target man Andy Carroll.

It’s worth noting that neither club has confirmed the reports, though both the Guardian and the Telegraph (amongst many others) are reporting that the two clubs have agreed on the meaty fee, and that the move is now almost certain to go through – duly ‘paving the way’ for Fernando Torres to complete his prospective move to Chelsea before the transfer deadline passes tonight (at 23:00 BST).

Initial thoughts? £35 million sounds very rich (Barca paid less for David Villa!) for a man with bit of a gippy thigh and who is still essentially trading on a scant handful of decent Premier League performances earlier in the season.

What do you reckon peeps? Has the panic set in at Anfield?

35million is about 20million too high for this guy

dam – if this is true – we have been had
especially as forlan is out there waiting to be bought

  2. C says:

    This just can’t be true…

“for a man with bit of a gippy thigh and who is still essentially trading on a scant handful of decent Premier League performances earlier in the season.”

Sounds like a player Chelsea are forking out £50m for if you ask me.

  4. Livmad says:

I don’t care, as we’ve got cover for stupid Torres…

  5. Steve says:

Him and Suarez should be a bloody good pairing. But 35m?? Ridiculous.

  6. George says:

35 Million, absolutely mental. He’s had a good first half of a season in the Premier League, but he’s such a limited player. Remember Kevin Phillips and Marcus Stewart had great début seasons in the Premier League as well…

  7. Dave says:

Mental. Unless he scores bloody loads. Then it will still be mental.

  8. audiodrifter says:

    The world’s gone mad.

  9. Jared_S_22 says:

Huge waste of cash by Pool but I would be much happier had this happened earlier in the window than today. Mike Ashley will pocket the cash instead of replacing AC.

  10. redder says:

Torres, i will give you a fuck! traitor of the year award nobody can take from you! BASTARD!

  11. pooky says:

“Traitor of the year”? Wasn’t Torres promised Champions League football and fighting for the Premiership when Liverpool lured him in 2007, before Rafa’s eclectic transfer policy and dubious man-management skills revealed themselves? He’s worked his b****cks off for Athletico & in his first 3 seasons at Liverpool and you can’t blame a guy for not wanting to finish his career with precisely zero club trophies!

  12. SeanBCFC says:

like i said before, you score a few goals and you’re world class

  13. kalezu says:

Absolutly crazy! $35 million for Carrol….the world must go mental or Liverpool new owners don’t have any clue about the market and players value. Just having a decent start to the premiership career does not guarantee you 35 million….CRAZY!!!

  14. owen says:

sky reporting the 35 mill has been rejected. I hope liverpool dont up the bid, go get ashley young and charlie adam and save the rest of the nando cash until the summer

  15. Chris says:

@Gaz: Ha! Good point, well made Sir!

  16. Montesquieu says:

Buying Andy Caroll is the personification of Liverpool’s mediocrity.

  17. craig martin says:

    TRAITOR B@@@@@@D GOOD RIDANCE!!!

  18. says:

They must be basing his price on his Fantasy Football points total

  19. Steve says:

How can people call Torres a traitor? He hasn’t gone to United or Everton. He is going to a side who are far more likely to win something this year. He doesn’t have any reason to stay in liverpool, they didn’t rescue his career or are his hometown side. The lad is a winner and wants club success. End of…he may be getting a few more quid but thats besides the point.

  20. Amber says:

Executives from LFC have not been to happy with Torres, since he cut his hair. They have been looking for a long-haired player ever since. They are very happy with their newly acquired hair-band wearing player. He will fit in quite nicely.

  21. Andrew says:

Why are people so distraught about the fee for Carroll? Have you not heard how much money these owners pay for baseball players? They had to pay a high fee for a good English player. As a plus, this now cripples Newcastle a severe amount since they can’t use the transfer money until the summer and without Carroll they are now a lot worse off.

  22. high as a kuyt says:

    andy carroll, liverpools number 9!

  23. Chris says:

All I can think is that in a VERY roundabout way Torres got little Joey Barton back for calling him a “f@#king poof”…

  24. JaiBlate says:

What is up with the fukkin english? Andy Carroll is worth 35 mil? Yeah right its only because he’s english. Now he’ll have to be picked in every england squad because of the price tag.

Absolute twats who love talking about themselves just like at the beginning of world cups when you talk about winning it!

The rest of europe are laughing at this buy. So carroll is on the same level as Suarez as a striker?

DICKHEADS. Not even a full season in the prem and he’s bought for this much ha ha ha ha ha ha ha h ah ah aha ha ha ha ah ah ah ah ah ah ah aha h ahhhhaahhahahahahah

I talk about the recent transfers of Liverpool’s and the mentality of their fans. I also give City and Chelsea a few jabs. Who pays 35M for Andy Carroll?!…

  26. Andrew Thompson says:

If AC did hand in a transfer request and want to leave then he is a bigger traitor than FT, Geordie lad, wherte it eh loyalty.
Im not saying he should of stayed for his whole career, but barely two seasons with him and he’s gone.

But I think Cashley has been a cnut again

  27. tom says:

35 million for carroll.no wonder fergie dosent like buyin in january if thats the price for a half decent player.how much for rooney,a billion??

  28. Pete Cosgrove says:

Ive heard of Suarez hes got a decent goal record and scored for liverpool in his first match.

Andy carroll Ive never heard of him and checked his record its a joke 35 million price tag. His record is nothing to shout about he hasn’t proved nothing. Liverpool have payed over the top for this player unless he turns out to be good time will only tell.

Diego forlan Liverpool should get him to join up with Suarez. Least then Liverpool have 2 proven goal scorers and both play with the same national team.

Liverpool since robbie fowler and mcmanaman havn’t had many young decent talent in the young teams. Apart from steven gerrard and Michael owen coming through after. there coming to the end soon not long left. Liverpool need to start getting young players through its youth system. Its not good enough buying players all the time. You need young talent and Liverpool havn’t done this for years.

Liverpool needs to change its been stuck and its got to change. Paying mega bucks for players alot of them havn’t done the bussiness. Very few have and its wasted far to much money on the ones that where flops.
