Ah, so now we know why Jozy Altidore is in England. This just in from Jozy’s Twitter feed:

So much for being discreet!
Hull City’s first Premier League match this season is at Chelsea on 15 August. Therefore I conclude that Altidore is about to announce a move to the Tigers. (Chelsea play Man Utd before then in the Community Shield, but somehow I doubt Altidore is moving to Old Trafford.)
Altidore also announced via Twitter that there is press conference tomorrow at 2.30pm, when I expect this announcement to be confirmed by Hull.
Minutes later, Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl (the man who wrote “The Beckham Experiment”) responded with this Tweet:

No reason to doubt any of this. We’ll find out for sure very soon.
Good move for Altidore? Well he wasn’t playing at Villarreal, so I guess it is. Whether or not he gets more playing time at Hull, as Wahl suggests, remains to be seen. I’m not so sure.
PS. Jozy is gonna love Hull’s beautiful climate and culture. Gulp.

I think it’s good: they definitely need quality and Altidore is that. The kid just needs some playing time. That said, not to sure how he’ll respond to being dressed down on the pitch at halftimes…

  2. Phil Smith says:

“Jozy is gonna love Hull’s beautiful climate and culture”. Who writes this rubbish? i) The climate is much the same as anywhere in England, so if you play for a Premier League team, that’s the climate you’re going to get. In fact, it’s drier in the east than in the west, so less rain than Lancashire, say, where there are a fair few Premier League clubs. And ii) Much the same applies to your other cheap crack. So the likes of Wigan, Sunderland, Blackburn, Burnley, Wolverhampton, Stoke, Bolton, Portsmouth are more cultured than Hull, are they? Again, you’re talking balls.

  3. Ollie says:

@ Phil (from Hull): Hull is a massive, steaming sh*thole. That is all.

  4. Me again. says:

PS I take it by culture you mean Jody is an opera buff and regular visitor to museums and art galleries. If not, and you merely mean going out on the pop and roasting young dollies, then he’ll soon find there’s plenty of that about all over England for a young lad on several grand a week. And opera.

  5. And again... says:

Hull’s no better or worse than most places in this country. Would you want to live in Wigan, Sunderland, Blackburn, Burnley, Wolverhampton, Stoke, Bolton or Portsmouth? Exactly.
Finsbury Park (Arsenal) is a proper shithole, Tottenham is even worse, large parts of Liverpool and Manchester are horror stories (Croxteth, anyone? Or Moss Side?), Birmingham is a mixture of drabness and drive-bys. So about all you’re left with is Fulham and Chelsea.
Anyway, how many footballers actually live in the cities where their clubs are? All the North-West lot are in Cheshire, for example. You don’t actually think Rio lives in fucking Rusholme, do you?

  6. Going on a bit now.. says:

    Crap Towns. Yeah, yawn.

  7. Ollie says:

Oh, I totally agree with you – Britain is overflowing with shitholes, including the ones you mention. Including ‘Ull.

  8. David Allison says:

With that kind of subtle transfer talk he’s a match made in heaven for Phil Brown, who is well known for his tact in this kind of situation…

  9. Peter says:

Hull is quite a nice place to live and has more culture then many places in England. There are shit parts of every city and towns even London, Manchester and Liverpool are shit in parts. Hull is no worse, in some aspects it is better.
Ollie, you come from Plymouth so you are a typical Southern, piss taker who believes that all Northerners are thugs and criminals. Go back to writing for the Daily Mail and spitting on poor people you posh tory wanker.
    Btw Hull is a CITY!

  11. Ollie says:

I lived in Yorkshire for seven years and loved it. “Posh tory wanker”? Nothing like cliched prejudice, Peter – I’m certainly not posh, I detest the Mail and I’ve never voted Tory. Apart from that, you’re spot-on. Jesus.

    its called sarcasm you sod

  13. Dave Shanky says:

There is year-round sunshine in Hull.
(I conclude this based on the indisputable evidence of Phil Brown’s tan)

  14. HULL CITY PROUD says:

everyone is quick to slag off hull and I bet none of u dumb b****rds have ever been there, and i bet your only slaging hull off because where you live is utterly sh*te compared to a city at the top of the totempoll, briming with culture, so fu**k yall.
