It’s been a while since we got around to featuring any transfer gossip on Pies, so we thought we’d swing into action with a outright, show-stopping nonsense of a belter.
According to this morning’s Daily Mirror, Man City are hoping to tempt Xavi, a man that just last night wrapped up his third consecutive (and sixth overall) La Liga title with Barcelona, to up-sticks and move to Eastlands in search of ‘one final payday’ – and the tabloid japesters are even kind enough to show us their working.
Apparently City’s interest in Xavi is ‘intriguing’ for a couple of reasons, primarily because the midfield artisan is apparently on a pauper’s wage (around £4-and-a-bit million a year) compared to the top earners at Barca and, secondly, that he may be bored of life in Catalonia after spending his entire career to date there.
Yep.
Because no gossip regarding Barca would be complete without it, the Mirror are even kind enough to throw in a bit of guff about Xavi’s imminent departure opening up the floor for Cesc Fabregas to rejoin his boyhood club.
Oh, and that City will look to reduce their monolithic wage bill by getting rid of a few fringe players and bringing in knock-down bargain alternatives like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Jack Rodwell – both of whom are thought to be high on Roberto Mancini’s summer hitlist.
Goddamn it. I love me a bit of transfer toss of a morning.
