Liverpool Close In On Jordan Henderson Deal – This Is What £20m Gets You These Days?

By Chris Wright

Bit of a puzzler here, but it seems highly likely that Liverpool are on the cusp of wrapping up a deal for Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson, with a fee just short of £20 million being mooted by several of today’s newspapers.

The Telegraph are reporting that Liverpool had a £16 million bid for Henderson rejected over the weekend and are set to return to the table with a bid somewhere just shy of the £20 million mark at some point tomorrow – which, fairly understandably, the paper reckon is a bid that Sunderland would be rather foolish to turn down.

Don’t get me wrong, Henderson looks like a fairly decent little player (though not overly prodigious) but £20-odd million for Christ’s sake? It’s not as if Liverpool even need another central-ish midfielder is it?

If the figures being bandied about are accurate, we have to say that we just don’t get it.

For the record, the ‘Graph also reckon that Sun’land also have designs to use £10 million of any prospective windfall to fund a move for Tottenham lankster Peter Crouch.

Elsewhere, the agent of Roma’s Brazilian keeper Doni, Ovidio Colucci, has claimed that the Reds are in advanced negotiations with his client and that the 31-year old stopper is more than willing to move to the Premier League.

So there you go.

If Sunderland pay 10 mil for a 30 year old Peter Crouch I will be well p’d off. We would get 2 good seasons out of him and no one can tell me Crouch is worth 5 mil a season not even taking into consideration his wages!!!

I’m a loyal SAFC fan and I have to say its very demorilising watching our squad being ripped apart by injuries and disloyalty!!!

i cannot believe this. if that what he’s going for scott parker should be at least 20 mil. fucking ridiculous. i’m sick of west ham getting the shit end of the deal!

20 million? fuckin hell what has this lad done. Get an england cap and suddenly your worth 20 mill????? He’s not good enough for any other top european team so why are liverpool paying over the odds (again) for a player? Because he’s english and the english think that they’re the best thing since sliced bread. Who the fukk makes up these prices?

  6. DJ says:

£20m for a player probably not even worth a a quarter of that sum is absolute madness. For some reason when English players get capped their price rockets up in value, i don’t know why though considering England are a bag of shit.

And people wonder why Wenger doesn’t purchase English players. 55 million pounds for Carrol and Henderson, un-fucking-believable.

If Henderson is worth 20m then must be worth .

If Henderson is worth 20m then (better player’s name goes here) must be worth (ridiculous transfer fee goes here).

    @ Anon

Dead right mate, I wouldn’t blame Wenger for not buying english as they are all shite, over rated and over priced. King Kenny must be listening to the english commentators who orgasm every time an england international touches a ball.

Uunfortunatley Wenger does need a bit of english to mix it up and get stuck in in midfield. But at these prices a more ‘elegant’ and cheaper european might be the option

swear down boys, I reckon Rodwell is better but would any black cats on here tell me wrong? are you happier with 3 ex manutd players? stay in the prem but the ugly way!

  13. Dave says:

@Gino annie?….Not good enough for any other top european team ? Maybe im reading it wrong but are you implying L’pool are a top european side? 30 years ago maybe. Living in the past methinks.
