“I won’t ask for a transfer, no. That would be disrespectful” – Luka Modric, June 18th 2011.

“I don’t think he’ll hand in a transfer request. He will honour his contract” – Luka Modric’s agent, July 7th 2011.

Skip forward to today, July 14th 2011, and the Guardian (among several others) are reporting that Luka Modric has indeed handed in a formal transfer request at Tottenham in a bid to begin forcing through a move to Chelsea.

According to the player himself, he was left with ‘no other option’ than to file a request to leave after Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reneged on a gentleman’s agreement struck between the pair last summer, pinky-swearing that Modders would be free to leave the Lane if a ‘bigger’ club came in for him this summer.

The bad news for Spurs is that Chelsea, much as they’re probably loathe to admit it, tick that ‘bigger club’ box and have already had two bids rejected for Modric, so it’s not as if the Croatian’s flirting isn’t being reciprocated across the smoky gin joint.

It seems now that the only things standing in the way of the transfer are a couple of frothy ‘he’s a triffic lad, he ain’t going nowhere’ self-denials from ‘Arry in the Spurs Lodge carpark and Roman Abramovich pulling about £35-40 million’s worth of small change from down the back of his settee.

Come to the bridge lad Liverpool are scum.

  3. Jack says:

Come to anfield? lol Can’t wait for you deluded mugs to realise you’re shit & haven’t a hope of finishing higher than 6th next season

  4. JF96 says:

Do what Torres done, say “i want to join a bigger club” then retract his own comments a week later. Chelsea will NEVER be as big as Liverpool .. 18-5, bought none of them. Wheres your European cup ?

  5. Luka Twat says:

Levy and Redknapp just threw the transfer request back in the greedy little wanker’s face. He staying at Spurs. The Chelsea pensioners will just have to fuck off and settle for Scott Parker (LOL), and as for him going to the car radio stealers, don’t be fucking stupid. Modric just has to be a man, if that’s at all possible.

  6. aspers says:

dont be so harsh they may even finish 5th

haha i love this story and all the comments from deluded fans makes it even better. heres a summary for you:

Man u: arrogant fans but hey, they are the best team in the country, have been for ages and will continue to be for quite a while. very well run.

chelsea: scum bags who bought the league but undeniably the second biggest club in england at present

liverpool: who? its not the 80’s anymore. hasbeens who used to enjoy the status man u now have (see above) who are currently desperately spending crazy money to try and claw back past glories. Pitty they are buying average players with huge fees.

tottenam: current climate you will not get top four, not consistently anyway, stop pretending to be something you are not. Chelsea are bigger and better and marginally more scummy than you so just let luka leave. Most sour grape fans ive ever encountered.

arsenal: ‘the new liverpool’ – you heard it here first folks, it seems as though they are embarking on a steady irreversable decline. which is actually a shame as they are a properly well run club who are just a little too arrogant to realise their system needs just a little tweaking, i fear it is too late for them now though

man city: complete chelsea clones. will probably become the biggest or at least second or third biggest club in england consistently over the next 10 or so years. the question remains as it does with chelsea as to how they would survive if the owners backed out, not favourably is my guess. still at least these fans sort of deserve it, i can imagine how infurating it would be to watch your neighbours win everything so winning a little will mean a lot to them.

I am a fulham fan, attack me at will

  9. JF96 says:

A club that sells Michael Jackson merchandise could not possibly have a say in this.

  10. tom says:

    @jf96
you’re right, it shouldnt be fulham selling MJ merchandise. In fact it should be liverpool, they were both big at the same time and have crumbled since, eventually dieing on their arses a couple of years ago.

  11. Solihull United says:

    come to birmingham!

  12. Montesquieu says:

Luka Modric unfortunately does not check WAATP. So, no point of asking him to come to one’s respective club.

It’s true though to what Tom says, Liverpool are not in the 1980s anymore and this is by far (looking at past history) one of the worst epoch’s of the club’s history. The past ownership, including the guy prior to the two Americans, was terrible himself. The club lingered in the belief that it would somehow mold good players at its academy, while they bought some flashy but mostly worthless talent.

As for support backing out, United is in the worst financial condition of all the major clubs. While they’re winning the financial situation is okay, but if anything happens it might be a catastrophic situation.

  13. Ryan says:

    WTF ?!? Leave then. Bastard.

  14. Dick van Kundt says:

spurs should let the little overrated wanker go for 30 mil and let him rot on the bench at chelsea
