Liverpool are thought to have nudged their noses ahead in the race to sign Bolton centre-half Gary Cahill after Kenny Dalglish gave the green-light for David N’Gog and Raheem Sterling to be included as ballast in the deal along with a cheque for £10 million.

Bolton have been sweet on N’Gog all summer but walked away after Liverpool refused to budge on their £4 million valuation of the reserve-string striker. However, now it seems that King Kenny has sanctioned his sale if it means landing Cahill in return, especially as Arsenal and their new-found pocket money continue to hover.

The part-exchange offer will also see 16-year old Sterling move to the Reebok on a season-long loan deal.

Seems like Bolton would still be getting the raw deal here to me (Cahill is valued at somewhere around £20 million), but stranger things have happened – maybe the promise of bagging not one but two new, potential-laden players into the bargain will be too enticing to turn down for Owen Coyle to turn down?

    Young Raheem is going to be huge in future (metaphorically of course; he’s very small), but don’t know if Bolton will get that much out of him this year already – so not sure if that factors much in to the deal. But N’gog might definitely flourish for them. After all he’s scored a good couple of important goals for Liverpool.

    Bollocks, Sterling’s not going anywhere. You can’t move if you’re just a kid. He says so here http://twitter.com/#!/sterling31/status/104128143920607232

    Oh, come one, Wenger, buy him, just fucking buy him!

    @Michael: Ditto

  5. Greg says:

    I’d say that £10 million + Ngog is a good deal for Bolton – especially as Cahill is out of contract in 10 months.

  6. Nick Wiper says:

    N’gog isn’t the worst striker, he’s scored past Man United, Arsenal and PSV and he’s still quite young. As for Raheem he’s raw talent and I don’t see much point in endless loans, be class if we got Cahill though he’s a class act.

    @Michael and Grant: Given its Wenger you are talking about, that comment will be interpreted that you are goading him to buy Sterling rather than Cahill. Who needs an established player when you can get a 16 year old unknown? :)

    PS> I think you have more of a chance of landing Cahill than Sterling btw.
