Not For The Squeamish: David Villa Suffers Broken Shinbone vs Al Sadd (Video)

By Chris Wright

Barcelona have just whupped Al Sadd 4-0 in the second Club World Cup semi-final in Yokohama (Adriano, Adriano, Keita and Maxwell if you’re interested – we’ll try and track down some highlights later), but the Japanese jolly has been soured somewhat by a nasty injury to David Villa, who split his tibia in twain five minutes before half-time.

Be warned, while this isn’t the most gruesome leg break you’ll ever witness, there’s a definite moment in the third replay when you can clearly see Villa’s shinbone ‘pop’…

Unsurprisingly, Villa is now expected to miss a sizeable chunk if not all of the rest of the season, so that nailed-on January move to Aston Villa is as good as kaput.

Takes it like a champ though. Get well soon Villa.

Sergio Biscuits could learn a thing or two about Man-up-manship from Villa…

  4. Inamar says:

Can’t be worse than what happened to Eduardo at Arsenal.

  5. Inamar says:

Anyway hope he gets well soon. Amazing player.

  6. luke says:

Wow, I’ve got a new respect for David “Chuck Norris is a pussy” Villa!

PS: Did you also feel a ’roundhouse kick to the face’ the moment you clicked on ‘submit comment’? :p

  8. WildScotsman6 says:

“oh yeah, broken for sure… well, best be on my way off the field then” Like a boss David Villa! Sure it is hurtin pretty bad right now tho once that shock wears off…

  9. sloth says:

They’d just escaped a match against Pepe with all bones intact… the irony must hurt more than his leg!
Poor guy. Took it on the chin with great dignity. Hope to see him back for Euro.

  10. Red_Devil says:

Funny how when he is actually hurt, he isn’t rolling on the ground. You would think it was broken when Albiol stepped on his leg in the Classico earlier this year.

  11. Fredmeister says:

Nails. Why does he cry like a bitch when people tackle him then?

  12. dp says:

Sorry for Villa, but too bad it wasn’t Messi. Would love to have seen how much Farcelona would win without their only real goalscorer.

  13. Barca says:

Very sad for him, hopefully gets better soon!

  14. Ali says:

I hate Barcelona n everything but I hope he gets better soon, and IT IS impressive how Villa handled the injury

  15. Anabelle says:

Not a Barcelona fan, but I admire David Villa.

A few years back I broke my leg, and the pain was so unbearable almost passed out.

    Get well soon Mr Villa.
